How to have Two Versions of Make The Cut

As most of you know I use Make The Cut software now, and have since last fall. I can't even begin to say how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE this program! I know many are wishing they were able to get the program to work with their Cricuts and those who haven't have gone on to other machines such as the Cameo, Zing, Pazzles (which I use) and other machines. One of the issues I ran into was that my older version of MTC that worked with my Cricut didn't have all the cool features of the updated version of Make The Cut. I couldn't upgrade my version because I would lose my plugin that made my Cricut work.

I finally decided to ask on the MTC forum if it was possible to upgrade somehow and while you can't upgrade the version you currently run and still be able to cut with your Cricut, you can install a newer version and have both versions running. What this does is give you all the cool features of the newer version and you can design in that, save your file and then open the file in the older version. I know it sounds like a lot of work to do that but honestly it isn't.

I've had a few questions recently about how to have both versions and I keep giving the link to this awesome video that will walk you through it. I thought others out there might not know about how to do this and I would share the link so you can update to a newer version while still having your version that works with the Cricut.

INSTALLING MULTIPLE COPIES OF MAKE THE CUT

Hope this helps!

  1. I have both versions open at the same time. I design in the new version and then copy and paste in place in the older version. I always make sure that the mats are different colors so I know at a glance which version I am in at the moment. Also, I learned that if I want to permanently install a font that I should only have the newest version open. LOVE MAKE THE CUT!!

    1. You have to already have it Kat. MTC can no longer supply any version that supports the Cricut due to the lawsuit.

  3. I had the old MTC version that worked with my cricut and then my computer crashed and I didn't have it backed up. I really miss being able to use all the svg's out there. I wish there was a way around all that. Maybe some day cricut will allow another program to work with cricut. I am keeping hope alive...LOL!

  4. I am still debating between Sure Cuts a Lot and Make the Cut. I don't know that there is any difference in the two. I also have a Pazzle as well as the usual Cricut machines. Is there really a difference between the two?

    1. I am not sure about the difference but I do know that Andy keeps adding wonderful features to MTC and he never makes it another program that you have to buy, whereas SCAL did. His updates are always free and the forum members will donate to him when he does some of the awesome updates.

  5. I use to have the older MTC version, but since I moved to Silhouette Cameo, and I seem to have problems of MTC (and ME) cutting in the proper area of the card stock, I use either SCAL3 or Silhouette Studio depending on what I am doing. But I do design in MTC
